WELCOME TO THE UNION FAMILY OF Local 406 PPPWU

The leadership of Local 406 PPPWU is proud to announce we have updated and improved the local‘s website. We have new and exciting information for our members, the most updated information related to our bargaining unit contracts, local by-laws, services and benefits.

We welcome input from you the member as to how we can improve this site.  We encourage our members to take advantage of what may be offered and the information provided. This is your website, dedicated to improving our communications with the rank and file.

We face many challenges going into the future, but remain optimistic and will continue to provide you the best representation available.  We are fortunate to have some of the best local and unit-wide leadership within the industry. Our goal is to make you feel good about being a part of this union and what it represents, not only you, but your families as well.

As you proceed through the new website, you will notice new ways to gain information on particular issues that may affect you or your unit. We intend to continue adding information, because we believe keeping the members informed helps create an atmosphere that's positive for all.

You will now be able to find dates and times of meetings, details of available services and the names of your local executive and unit officers as well as other helpful information.

This is just the beginning of what we believe is the right direction for this local union and its many members who represent much of Newsday’s workforce.  This is your site, help make it work, participate in its content and let others know we are united towards one goal—to expect fairness and equality while employed at Newsday.

Here is the official tally of the votes for the Local 406 president in the rerun election conducted on July 19, 2023.

Local 406 President Mike LaSpina will complete his term of office after defeating his challenger, reporter Ted Phillips. Ballots for the rerun election were counted on Wednesday under supervision by the Office of Labor-Management Standards (OLMS). The vote was 61-28; 89 ballots were cast, a participation record.

About the appropriate way to sign the green business reply envelope returning your ballot in the rerun presidential election.

In the past month you may have opened a letter from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters claiming that your union membership was still with the IBT. This claim is being disputed in federal court by your union, the Printing, Packaging, and Production Workers Union of North America.

My challenger has put out another letter that I feel I have to rebut so you have accurate information.
